I'm 22 years old and currently reside with my father as well as my younger siblings. For the past 2 years since I started working, we have filed our taxes separately and he does not claim me on his returns.
I like a lot of people filed with TurboTax, back in early April. During the filing process, at one point you will be asked on TurboTax if someone CAN claim you as a dependent on their return and whether they WILL or WILL NOT claim you. Obviously since I live with my father and he provides financial support for me, I answered "yes" to the first question, but "no" to the second as again he does not claim me on his return.
Will this prevent me in any way from receiving a stimulus check? And if so, is there a way to dispute it with the IRS? Every time I use the "Get My Payment" tool on the IRS website to check on my status, I get the infamous "Payment Status Not Available" screen. I received my tax refund at the end of April, so the IRS obviously has my bank and direct deposit info. Just desperately seeking out answers. Almost everyone I know has received it except for me and the money could definitely help us out right now.
