What is the best way to protect a simple device?
Post Body

Essentially I have made a prototype of a headband that resolves many issues that people have reported with a device made by a third party company.

Noone, as far as I have found, has made a similar type of headband to resolve the problems, not even the company that makes the associated device.

I want to move onto production and selling of my headband, but since it is a very simple product that anyone can make if they think about it, I want to first protect my ownership of the headband design.

I do not however have much money to get a patent lawyer involved, so will be doing it all myself.

I am thinking that a provisional or derivative patent may be the route to go, but decided I would ask here before doing so to see if anyone had any ideas on what would be the best way to proceed?

The lower cost it is, the better.
