I'm working on an online turn-based strategy game that allows up to 50 players to each build a civilization and roleplay as its leader. The game is very nearly complete, as most of the programming work has been completed already. Until recently, this has been a personal project. However, as the project approaches beta release, I've hired some artists to replace existing programmer art. Beyond art, I also need some audio designers, writers, and a web frontend developer. Java developers (like me) interested in working on the backend are welcome as well.
The game has four components, in various stages of development:
A web server written in Java, which maintains the gamestate. The server is mostly complete, and has been in beta for some time.
A client written in Java, using the LibGDX library. The client queries the gamestate and renders it to the game window. The client is considered to be in an alpha stage, but will be moved to beta when programmer art is replaced.
A Wikipedia-style collection of webpages that explains gameplay to users. A core feature of the server is that it can host multiple games at once, each possibly running according to different gameplay rules. This means that each game has its own wiki, generated when the game is started. Essentially, Java will be used to write Javascript Html. This is yet to be completed.
A website which explains general gameplay and allows users to download the client. The website currently exists and is available here, but is somewhat out of date. This can be greatly improved by someone familiar with Javascript/CSS.
If you're interested, please send me a PM explaining how you can contribute. I'll invite you to a discord server, and from I will give you a tour of current functionality. After that, I'll show you how you can contribute based on your skill set, and we will discuss pay.
As for myself, I am a Java developer, with a background in game design, AI, and webserver architecture. My personal goal is to start a successful Indie game development studio. If this game is successful, I will likely rehire those I've worked with previously to begin my next project.
EDIT: Most of these roles are currently filled, except the Frontend Developer.
