Hi there. I'm starting up making a first person dungeon crawler in Unreal Engine 5. I'm looking for anyone interested, coders or not, to help with development.
The game will be in the style of Labyrinth of touhou, or for those unfamiliar, something like Etrian Odyssey, but i'm also looking at strange journey redux as basically the only other modern first person dungeon crawler that isn't complete garbage.
Almost none of this genre is on PC, and of them, literally just the Labyrinth 2 remake, and the Etrian 1-2-3 remake, have decent graphics / settings. The rest all kind of look like really bad MS paint art, or totally clashing art styles with no proper direction whatsoever. I think most people look and thing a bad genre, but it's just because other then 1 series, and Laby2/Strange journey, that all the games are complete crap, not that the genre is crap. Rare games like those show that fantastic games in the genre can / do exist, but etrian, and laby/SJ have not had new games in a decade, just remakes.
I'm starting up a new one. I am a game designer myself, and have years of experience. I also have someone familiar with unreal engine's blueprinting and is creating the backend systems such as the map system, town, battle, etc. I'm be working on characters, skills, enemy AI, and everything encompassing game balance and themes.
As for whats needed... well, nothing is "needed". I'm not trying to be a AAA game, and thanks to AI, art and sound are both not problems. Hes a great coder, and i also have experience in art and UI & UX. While i'm very good at design overall, it would still be helpful none the less to onboard an additional designer to help speed things along. I'm planning a larger amount of playable characters then most games, with their own skill trees, and having someone to talk to and go over game design with, as well as game balance across the cast and the spell list would be very helpful. Although i may later recruit art & sound at the very end to polish up over AI assets / placeholders, right now im looking for game designers, or maybe coders.
Another part i dislike of nearly all dungeon crawlers, is you input your entire teams inputs when hold A to watch them play out, as well as a number of dungeon crawlers all have 5 person partys. This game will only have 4 players in the front active party, and turns are per character, not per party.
If first person dungeon crawlers, and or games with a large cast of playable characters with interesting skill trees that aren't just Stat are interesting to you, you can reach me on discord at Dawnbomb
