You know there was always one loophole that I tried to figure out during the formal:
Who told Rand that "Nol quit because of a friend" during the formal
Initially I thought it was Yui because of this scene:
But the problem is Yui didn't get to know the specifics because just at the right time Meg decides to chime in so "quitting because of a friend" wasn't mentioned
Also Rand's "alone time" is basically him running away from Yui so I don't think he's interested in getting information about Nol from her.
It could have been Jayce:
but Jayce only got to know that Nol "quit" after Kousuke told him.
Of course, Jayce did know Kousuke's scheme of showing Shin-ae's application to Nol to keep him working so he could've been the one but he was also the one who said: "wouldn't your father be disappointed" so it wouldn't make sense for him to let Rand know Nol quit.
Also
Jayce met with Nol... so he would've cleared up the idea that "Nol's quitting because of a friend" because Nol literally ran over there to say he's going to keep working...
Random Tangent: Jayce is literally so happy that Nol wants to keep working. They have such a special work relationship. He also came to check up on Nol during the Yu Jing interview...Jayce may work under Kou but his employee heart lies with Nol.
Okay I'll be blunt and say I do think it was Kou who tattle-tailed that Nol quit because of a friend:
Also the confrontation night was the night Rand came back from his trip so he would've had some face to face interaction with Kousuke.
This was the night of their \"spat\"
Also "he quit because of a friend" is clearly a Kousuke driven narrative because he was the first one to insinuate it
Now that I think about it , "quitting because of a friend" is a pretty stupid reason to quit a job, like this isn't some school club you can be absent for 120 meetings because you and your friends can't fool around.
I think what really pissed Nol was that Kou thought the only reason why Nol took the Hirahara job was because he could have fun. That all Nol cared about was having fun, he didn't care about working hard or doing anything in his life, a freeloader.
Also:
Rand specifically says " I come back from my trip..."
Who was the first person waiting for him at the airport... Kousuke
Kousuke could've easily let Rand know of the events that happened earlier. Rand may have asked Kousuke what's going on with Nol and since well, Kousuke may have been still salty about the fight he may have told Rand " Nol quit because of a friend ". That must've really infuriated Rand...his blood pressure probably got really high.
Last but not least:
Kousuke's eyes are closed = lying
That honestly is sort of sad on Kousuke's part:
He really be sending his shark parents at Nol.
and it completely repaints the the Nol and Kou moment before Yui came in at the formal
Before I did truly believe Kou's words did come from a place of sympathy but honestly he told "quitting because of a friend" so deliberately to Rand, he 100% must've known that Rand was going chastise Nol with some extra vigor. I mean he literally told Shin-ae that employees find Rand "very intimidating" so the argument "Kousuke didn't forsee this.." does not make sense.
Also it makes his comment's really cruel: also Kousuke's humor seems to be deadpan and sarcasm so these could be attempts of him being humorous.
Also Nol knows Kousuke better than anyone else in this comic, so whatever comes out of his mouth we better trust.
"didn't chase you out of the party did he"
"I was only trying to be a considerate brother"
"I'd usually make attempts to sympathize when that happens"
"I wasn't there to witness what exactly happened"
Kousuke knew what he was doing when he told Rand "Nol quit because of a friend" . Not only was it a complete lie but it was also another way of jabbing at Nol through his ferocious parents ( aka Yui and Rand ). When Nol does something wrong tell Rand, when he does something semi-decent tell Yui. Nol really can't win here. Nol got a girl-friend --> Yui probably got that info from Kou ( I mean he used to do baby-sitting duty ) --> Alyssa is essentially pulled away from Nol by Yui. Nol messed up at work --> tell Rand --> Rand will give him a 3 hour-lecture.
Essentially Kousuke added to Rand's vendetta and relished the sight of seeing Nol being "chased out of the party" since it seemed like he was making some rather rude jokes.
Making fun of Nol's mental state...not cute.
Hopefully he'll get better in the future...
To end this:
Kousuke
oof this was a pretty heavy post...Let me know if you agree or disagree...
One thing is for sure all the characters have layers which means THEY DO BOTH GOOD AND BAD
Kousuke's motivations/past is still unknown so our sympathy may be low but I'm sure there's more to his grey morality than what we currently see in the comic.
WE HAVE YET TO SEE KOUSUKE'S PERSPECTIVE
