Honest question from a third year inside wireman apprentice concerning work scheduling

The job steward walks through after lunch on a Friday and announced that the work schedule was changing from 5 - 8’s to 5 - 10’s and an 8.

My wife and I have three kids that I watch in the evenings while she goes to work. She owns her own business and books out clients weeks in advance. We also don’t have family that can babysit and can not afford childcare.

Am I “legally bound “ to work this new schedule seemingly made up on the fly?

Edit: thanks everyone for your help. I’m going to let my immediate foreman and director of the JATC know of my situation first thing Monday morning.
