So I'm new to the union. Like my second week new!!! I've been an electrician for 15yrs. Everything I know I've learned on the job. Never once set in a school for it. Took the hands on skill test pasted it and now I'm a JW. The union is decent sized here but I still don't know who to talk to about what to do and what not to do. A lot of people in my union were also non union and a lot have been union since they started.
My first question is why am I looked down upon cause I've never been to school? I've ran multi-million dollar jobs. I've ran tiny jobs. I know how to use my code book. I know what my strengths and weaknesses are. A wise man once told me the smartest man isn't always the one running the job. It's the man who knows who to put people where they need be to make the job successful and complete it efficiently and correct. I've lead men in war and I know how to lead. But I am not a fan when I am asked if I went through the apprenticeship school and I say no and they scoff at me. How am I any less an electrician then they are?
My second question is who is the best person to talk to about what is expected of me as a member of the Union.
Any insight y'all might be able to give me would be wonderful and extremely helpful.
Thank you in advance for info y'all bring my way.
