From what I'm aware of, most countries haven't done above ground testing in a while. I see a lot of soldiers talking about their experiences in W.W.II, or the Vietnam War, but I rarely hear anything from soldiers, or scientists about their experience around nuclear weapons testing during the cold war. This isn't just aimed at Americans who participated in testing, but people from other countries as well. In a lot of the old footage of these tests, you see a lot of soldiers in trenches, or sailors on the deck of a ship watching these things. Some of these people still have to be out there, so if you know someone who has gone through this, please invite them on to talk about it if they can, or maybe answer for them. I don't know if they are sworn to secrecy for most of it, or what. If you can tell us about your experiences...
- What were you ordered to do and what was the test like (sights, sounds, thoughts, fears you might have had going into it, etc.)?
- Did you get to see any of the damage from any vehicles, buildings, or other objects they had set up to test on?
- Has it changed your view on countries owning nuclear weapons?
- Has it had any other changes on your beliefs, philosophy, religion, the way you view humanity, or had any major impact on the way you live your life?
- Has it caused you to worry about nuclear war, or have nightmares about it?
- Have you had any health problems directly associated with that testing, or you think might have been caused by that testing?
- If so, how well is the government helping you get treatment?
