My name is Scott Harris, I’ve made a documentary film called Being Ginger, which premiered in August at the world’s biggest redhead festival. I’ve also been selling the HD download from my web site since then. Because today is Hug a Ginger Day, I’ve decided to make the film available for free on Vimeo. It will only be free today though. (Please don’t pirate it. I’m not a big studio, I’m the most independent of filmmakers and I’m still in debt for about $50,000.)

The thing is, the film isn’t meant to only be for redheads. It’s much more universal than that, but I’m having a hard time getting anyone to give it a chance. It was rejected by film festivals who actually sent me personal rejection notices saying, “I really like it, but I don’t think there is an audience for it.” It was rejected by broadcasters all over the world, including Scotland and Ireland, without them actually watching it. A Scottish broadcaster told me “There is no audience for a film about redheads.” In Scotland.

I’m hoping to prove them wrong.

I’m making it free today because I hope a lot of you will watch it, like it, and tell your friends, and it will spread. Also, Vimeo has a tip jar so even though it’s free, you’re welcome to put in what you think its worth.

After traveling to five different redhead gatherings in Europe last year, I am about to start a tour of the film in the US, and I’m hoping to use it as a way to have little redheaded events all over the country. Although I should say that all are welcome, the film is NOT just for redheads. It’s for anyone who has ever felt different.
