Heat related lows

Post Body

Does anybody else get low blood sugar during heat or hot weather? I feel like I’ve been suffering with this for years, but it’s only recently come about that we’ve realized it’s probably low blood sugar related.

During my last pregnancy, I got a continuous reader because I knew something was wrong and I knew it was blood sugar related but every time the doctors tested me it would be fine, but my continuous monitor showed that it wasn’t and I was having lows that would not stay up, no matter what I did. I was basically eating around the clock to try and keep the readings in line.

It did get a little bit better after pregnancy, but I find I’m still having problems in the heat. This typically has been getting worse and worse every year. Anytime I go out in any kind of heat even if it’s barely hot at all if the sun is shining even if it’s cold and windy and I could even a little bit warm I get low symptoms. However if I check my levels with a finger prick during this time they will typically show normal.

The doctor is going to try me on Metformin but I am very afraid of new medication. He says my pancreas is releasing too much insulin (based on my c peptide results) and that this will help level it out.

I guess I am worried that it will cause low blood sugar but he said that wouldn’t happen and it will just help my body release less and use it better.

I am hopeful this will be a miracle for me since I can’t do anything (walks outside, park with my kids etc) without feeling so bad for hours after
