There's a batch of images featuring this, but basically - imagine a tentacle pit. Pretty simple, right? Now imagine you're only shoulder deep in it, and the pit is full of numbing goo that leaves you completely unable to feel anything below your arms. So you're stuck there, completely unaware of what's happening to your lower half, only able to hope it's nothing nefarious.
