3D printed/wood gurdy
Post Body

A long time fan of Hurdy Gurdies recently I went deep into the topic After searching for affordable options I decided to try and make one myself, and maybe opt for a real gurdy once I'll be able to get one comfortably

I'm not really a wood worker, having only basic hand tools But I'm an engineering student, and i know how to design and print in 3D The main objective was to obtain a decently working instrument, just to try and learn the basics of it

So here's the platypus I made! Patching the holes in my basic woodworking skills with my better skills in 3D printing

The body, keys and headstock are made from wood

The tangents, keybox, wheel, bridges, nut, crank and pommel are all 3D printed

All I had to buy are a few crappy banjo tuners, a 10mm threaded rod, nuts, bearings and a few screws. And strings! Cello, viola, and a guitar one I had laying around for the drone

After a ton of small adjustments and so on here's a sample of the result, hopefully from here it will get better!

An Dro, with 2 melody strings in octave G, a C drone and a G trompette

If someone wants to try using the same 3D prints I can share them, just ask!
