Hey all! I'm looking to repair or replace my house 's A/C system. My house is 1600 sq ft. It currently has a single stage system that was installed about 20 years ago. It seems to have leaked its refrigerant from the outside unit. The attic unit seems to have a decent amount of rust as well. Since it's an older system, I assume it'll be better and cheaper in the long run to go ahead and replace it with a newer system.

I had someone come this week, and they quoted about $19k to replace both the outside and attic units. They also said that the ducting was sized too small, and it would be better to replace and reorient the ducting with correctly-sized ductwork. The ducting quote was about $11-12k. Total, $30-31k in total expenses. The new system will be a Daikin multistage system.

I expected $10-12k, so this quoted figure surprised me. What are the typical ballpark ranges for my house size?

Edit: the unit they quoted will be a 3 ton unit
