New Lab Puppy
Post Body

New lab owner. What’s the best approach if I want to hunt (waterfowl/upland) my pup who will be over a year old comes fall 2023 but also want to run hunt tests with her? One of the trainers who’s helping me said to not hunt her until 2 years old or older and if I do hunt her earlier, stick to waterfowl only because upland will cause a lot of bad habits. The kennel I bought my lab from, both parents comes from a great hunt test/field trial pedigree but were also great waterfowl dogs since pups. Anyone who does hunt test/field test able to upland hunt their dogs under two and was successful at hunt test/field trials?

Also is it common to have limited registration rights on the pups? The owner said I will get full registration rights only when the dog is “titled” and “health tested”.
