Working dogs on ice safely
Post Body

Iโ€™ve seen a few videos of dogs working on the water, and they can confidently and calmly haul themselves out on the ice using their dewclaws (dogs without dewclaws could as well but definitely struggled more). I want to know how do you even train dogs to do this? My girl is confident on frozen bodies of water and sheโ€™s not scared of ice. I have done a little bit of bumper work in both slushy water and shallow water with thin ice that she could easily break through while still standing in the water. I have no plans to purposely work over ice where she will fall through, this is really more of a safety measure should she ever find herself in the situation.
