Questionable Dog Trainer

It’s my wife and I first hunting dog. We dropped our pup at a recommend trainer 6 weeks ago to do force fetching. Yesterday we visited the pup and notice she is very shy of our hands. Do you think this is from force fetching ( ear pinching) or actual abuse?
Again I never have trained a hunting/field trial dog so this is all new.
Any info would be great!
