Public Land Advice - Montana and South Dakota - Upland Birds

Post Body

Making the cross country trip from Philly out West next fall--hitting MT and SD end of October.

It'll be my first time in Montana and SD after hunting primarily Chukar and Quail in Oregon earlier in the trip. Not looking for anyone's honey holes, but more general recommendations for public land bird hunting in central(ish) Montana and then SD. Honestly, the amount of public land is a bit intimidating coming from the East Coast. Will be hunting with a friend and his dog in Montana, and then solo (probably with the dog) in SD. We were looking around Fergus county in MT and then I have three to four days in SD before heading to Nebraska. Advice is greatly appreciated!

Likewise, if anyone would like to join a new(ish) hunter in either state that would be most excellent. Bagging birds is great, but I'm honestly most excited to see new parts of the country and enjoy difficult hunts. We'll be in both states end of October. Own a Thai Boxing gym, so happy to trade skill sets if anyone wants to learn how to hit stuff a bit better haha. Thanks in advanced.
