So after doing high powered rifles for years in WV, MD is now allowing straight walled cartridges for hunting white tails. I would like to get a gun and am considering 4 options.
1) 357 lever action Pros: no recoil (can definitely share with my wife, who is sometimes recoil sensitive), cheapish to shoot
Cons: only the hottest factory rounds are legal for deer (1200 ft lbs min in MD) Guns are impossible to find right now
2) 41 Mag lever action Pros: guns are cheaper on gun broker, round is very good for deer, intermediate recoil compared with 44
Cons: 41 Mag ammo is hard to find in normal times
3) 350 Legend single shot Pros: Cheaper than a lever gun, recoil still manageable, round is very much usable for deer
Cons: proprietary cartridge, rounds scarce, hard to reload if I ever get into that
45-70 govt single shot
Pros: it is a fucking 45 70. Also a moose and elk gun when I need one.
Cons: ammo expensive, recoil is stiff to heavy, probably a gun I couldn't share.
So...thoughts?
