Okay, EVERYONE has been talking about spear and how it is broken. I have a suggestion that is a little different than what everyone else has been saying, such as making it take two slots.
Let me introduce you to something called an Atlatl otherwise known as the spear-thrower. This nifty device is something that was used by paleolithic hunters to help throw their spears. It is kinda of a precursor to the bow and arrow. It allowed hunters to throw the spear up to 100 miles per an hour, or roughly 45 meters per a second.
My suggestion is this, remove the throwing spear from the utility spot and replace it with the atlatl. Make it either a 2 or 3 slot weapon. The throwing spears would be the ammo. Have it retrievable like arrows and bolts and have the ammo limited to 2 or 3, and give it a slow reload time. While you have spears, you can use it to do jabs with a weak attack and heavy attack, and while winded, have it do a push attack that rifles do when you are out of stamina. When you are out of ammo, have it be like the bow that is used with hundred hands, you use the atlatl like a club (in real life that would probably break the damn thing, but who cares). This also gives a in universe explanation why you can throw the spear roughly 60 meters per a second. It forces players to sacrifice a gun slot to use a good melee like you would with other melee weapons (im also in the camp that thinks the katana needs to be a 2 two weapon again)
This does a couple things, it still makes other melee weapons relevant as they occupy 1 slot, and makes the bomb lance still a useful melee/limited range weapon. This also gives devs the opportunity to give variants to the spear. Maybe have a firebomb attached to the spear or have barbed spears that cause heavy bleed. Other utility weapons like the throwing weapons, knife or the knuckle-knife will be relevant again.
I dunno, this is my thought as I absolutely love the spear and think it has been fun as hell to play with. I also recognize that it is current way too overpowered. I feel as if nerfing too much will make less fun and making it take up two slots in your utility is boring. So why not lean into it a little bit and balance it out as an actual weapon.
