Sorry this is taking so long to get done. My move from Niagara has been longer and more involved than I thought so most of my free time has been there. I'm still willing to get this going but it might take more time than people like. I'm so sorry.
MEMBER STATUS: 3/10 needed to create club!
EDIT: This is for NORTH Campus! Though Lakeshore and Guelph students are welcome as well! (Also edit for structure, clarity, and detail. Sorry for the previous mess of a post!)
After some searching I found no clubs for gust general video gaming (All I found was a league club and a DOTA club may be forming in Oct). So I'd like to start a Video Game club with a broad focus on both playing video games, as well as a place for friendly discussion about the gaming industry and gaming culture. It could also be a great place for game design and programming students to come and share their knowledge and passion with other gamers who may be interested, but not know anything about game design. So here's a basic idea of what I'd like to have go on:
--> Obviously a place for gamers to hang out and game, as well as engage in discussion and debates about gaming culture if they so choose. It'll be a pretty relaxed and casual environment. There won't be a whole lot of structure but I may hold small tourneys every now and again if people have an interest. With prizes!
--> There will be "Genre Nights" where I will feature games of a specific genre on my PC. For example, one night I will feature fighting games, another night I will do Racing, and another night Rhythm. I will try to cover as many unique genres as possible. I will be doing this as a way to introduce gamers to new experiences. This won't be for the entire time nor will it be mandatory to play, and players with their own consoles are very welcome to play whatever they like as the genre feature will only be on my PC.
--> This will be a positive and constructive environment. Please respect members AND their equipment. Any discrimination against members for any reason (Race, Gender, Religion, etc) won't be tolerated. Any attempts to damage or steal other members proper will also not be tolerated. Any member caught doing EITHER of these things will be immediately reported to campus security and asked to leave. Political discussion is also frowned upon since it starts conflict more often than not.
--> This will be a LGBTQ safe space with a zero tolerance policy. ANY forms of harassment will be immediately reported to campus security and you will be asked to leave. If it's not acceptable anywhere else on campus, it's not acceptable here. Period.
--> This will be a NO-PIRACY environment. I get it, some people can't afford games and download them instead. I am guilty of this myself on occasion. However there may be students in our club looking to get into the gaming industry as a career and out of respect for them, all discussions and practices of game and software piracy won't be allowed. I'm not gonna throw you out for it but I will ask you to steer clear of the topic out of respect for those in, or getting into the industry. I will also ask that members please only use legitimately obtained software, again just out of respect of those in the industry.
--> I will strive to provide at least one gaming platform for people to play on (My PC) but my own resources are fairly limited at the moment (I only have one gamepad right now) So members are encouraged to bring in their own consoles if they wish to play on a platform other than PC. If you have a personal gamepad you love to use, feel welcome to bring it if you like. Just please bring a cord or make sure it's Bluetooth compatible (DualShock 4 and the Xbox One controllers are Bluetooth compatible) [[Also, if anyone drives that could possibly help me transport my rig during bad weather, I will reward you with delicious coffee (or tea if that's your thing) I'm only about a 4-5 minute drive away]]
--> Lastly, a place for game design, development, and programming students to come and share their passion and knowledge with other gamers, share their projects with others passionate about games, or even find beta testers to help them build their dream product! This could also be a great spot to answer questions gamers may have about breaking into the industry! Again none of this is mandatory, but absolutely possible and encouraged!———————————————————————————————————————————— So yeah. That's the basic idea behind the club. I'm VERY new at this so if someone has experience with running a club that wants to help, that would be awesome! Sorry for the wall of text, just wanna be as detailed about what I'd like to accomplish as possible. If you're at all interested in joining let me know! I will post the official IGNITE info as soon as I get through all the bureaucracy required in making a new club. I have one other "executive" or whatever us peeps in charge are called, but I'd be happy to take on a third member to help run things smoothly. And as many regular members as want to join. I will also try to make some flyers or something if there is any sort of bulletin board on campus I can advertise a school club on.
Again sorry for the wall of text! And I apologize now if anything seems off. Still new to all this!
