Hello everyone, I am so frustrated. I have been for the past couple months on and off trying to figure out how to CRACK my old laptop password. Yes i know i can reset it multiple ways, with a windows 10 usb using CMD, using Chntpw in kali linux. But i do not want to reset it, i want to crack it, because that password is the password to multiple other computers. So far this is what i have done. I took my hardrive out of my laptop and was able to mount it on kali linux. I was able to cp the SAM and System files. Now from here this is where things dont work in my favor, I try using OPHcrack and John the ripper, but they dont work. Is there anything i am doing wrong. I am able to access the directories of the Sam and System files. What is the proper way of cracking them? Anyone have experience in actually CRACKING passwords that can steer me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!!
