As a longtime avid fan of the GRR Martin novels and Game of Thrones on HBO, I hate to say it, but I thought House of the Dragons was a massive letdown. Between an extremely sluggish pace, hyper repetitiveness of themes and storylines, utter inconsistencies with geographic places/architecture/etc, and completely omitting any references to anything beyond the Targaeryan/Hightower family feud (ya know, like the Wall and it’s 12 fully functional castles at the time, Dorne, etc), I just thought the entire series was over indulgent and moved like molasses. Add in the cartoonish figures of Aemond, Daemon, ol creepy clubfoot jerking off to the queen’s feet guy, and King Viscerys’ absolute incompetence, and the whole series felt like a catastrophic waste of money, energy, and amazing material for compelling stories.
Of course there was some excellent acting, special effects, etc, and like any GOT fan I’ll lap it up like a flea bottom cat with a saucer of warm goat milk. Really hope the next project delivers anywhere near what we were so fortunate to witness withGOT.
