HOB is located in San Diego between the Mira Mesa and UTC areas. The actual address of the club is given to club members after buying a ticket to an event.

When is House of Black open?

The schedule varies from week to week. Nearly every Saturday and most Fridays are open play events with a theme. Education classes are offered during the week. Once a month on Thursday there is a ladies-only night and a sexy game night. Most Friday and Saturday events run from 8 until 1, with some exceptions. 10 pm is the usual last entry time.

Do I have to be a member to attend an event?

You do have to be a member to attend almost all events at the House of Black. Some education nights do not require membership, but all other events require you to have an active membership to attend.

Can anyone become a member?

No. You must be at least 21. Single males must be vouched for by an active member in good standing and go through a vetting process. All potential members must go through an application process.

You can apply for a profile at the House of Black membership site. With a profile you can see upcoming events and view the profiles of other members. Some features of the website, like sending or replying to messages, are not available unless you upgrade to a paid membership.

Most members are in their 30s or 40s, with the next largest group in their 20s.

Is House of Black more of a lifestyle club or kink club?

HOB is the best of both worlds. On any given night, there are swingers looking for opportunities to find new partners to swap with and kinksters showing off their craft. Many people come for the lifestyle, and expand their horizons, trying on new BDSM activities.

Is there a dress code for House of Black? Do I have to be naked there?

There is no requirement to be naked at HOB. Many nights have fun themes, with themed-attire encouraged. If not dressed to a theme, it is recommended that you dress to impress. Men will feel comfortable in slacks and a nice shirt, with stylish men dressed in a well-fit suit. Women will often wear a sexy dress, clubwear, or lingerie.

What is the club's policy on alcohol and cannabis? Is there a place to smoke?

For most events you can bring your own alcohol. Alcohol should be turned in to the bar, where a volunteer bar tender will mix drinks for you during the night. Any unopened cans or bottles may go home with you at the end of the night, but open bottles need to remain in the club for liability reasons. Always drink responsibly in the club, if you overdo it you may be cutoff and/or asked to leave. Cannabis is never allowed in the club, but nicotine can be vaped or smoked on the outside patio only.

What safety protocols are put into place to protect members?

All new members are given a tour on their first visit where the topic of consent is discussed at length. Each event begins with announcements that reinforce the rules of the club, with a focus on consent. There is a club safe word that is shared at every event. Most events have two safety monitors that patrol during the event, in addition to other volunteers looking out for the safety of all.

What is the policy on cell phones in the House of Black?

Discretion is a foundational value of the club, and so cell phone use is extremely limited. Cell phones can only be used on the patio for calls or texts. There is a selfie wall in the front of the club where club patrons can take pictures in their costumes at the start of the night. Cell phone alerts can be viewed inside lockers. Cell phones can be connected to the bluetooth speaker in the room with a stripper pole, but must remain face down on the table. That's it. Cell phones are not allowed anywhere else in the club. If you make a connection with another couple and want to share phone numbers, you should only do it with your phone insides a locker or out on the patio.
