Help deciding Saving goal for workstation

Hey all, I'm a recent student graduate and am looking for a more expert opinion on which kind of laptop would be better to try and work torwards getting; a mobile workstation type or a gaming type. Reason being I'm currently living in N.Z. and will most likely be moving to U.S.A. sometime next year.
