She initially opened the door peering from behind it (hidden) but with a €20 tip in her hand. Explained it was for my birthday and if he was OK with it... We planned this bit quite carefully because you can't / shouldn't impose these things on someone just doing their job who is unwitting/unwilling to participate.
Thankfully it was the barman we had got to know a little bit the night before, when he had earned another €20 tip from me. It was quite a smallish hotel
I even knew his name. We were delighted when it was him that they sent with the Champagne. So he was beaming and she was all giggly 🤣.
He saw me inside fully dressed smartly for dinner. He knew what we were playing at. I'm sure he's seen it all before. He knew we were naughty.
He even took his time opening the champagne and serving us.
