Our encounters with Adam were beginning to happen quite frequently over the next 6 months. My husband and him shared a lot of common interests which is honestly so important. Many times, the two of them would just go hang out together like they were best friends. This type of dynamic really helps take a lot of the burden of responsibility off of the wife. I didn’t feel like I was the “buffer” between my husband and our playmate, which allows me to relax and just enjoy being in the moment when we would all get together. After a couple months, my husband even became comfortable with me playing with Adam alone when he would be out of town for work.

Right around the 6 month mark, things began to change. We started noticing little red flags with Adam. Remember when I said that we are highly experienced? We’re kinda like Farmers Insurance. “We know a thing or two because we’ve seen a thing or two….” One afternoon, my husband texts Adam seeing if he wanted to come over to our place during his lunch break for a quickie (lunchtime quickies were kind of our speciality since he worked really close to our house). Adam replied to my husband that he couldn’t today because he had to work through lunch. No big deal, right? Hubby let me know that today wasn’t going to work, so we just went about our business as usual.

Less than 10 minutes later, I receive a text from Adam. “Hey Babe, I am going to be stuck here at work for another couple hours, but have about an hour break here soon. Do you want to try meeting up real quick?” This was the first red flag we noticed. Why would Adam tell my husband one thing, but then tell me something different just a few minutes later? Does he think that my husband and I don’t communicate well? Or that I would go meet him and perpetuate the lie that he told my husband?
