Question for couples: Do you usually pay for the hotel or split it with the third? (third asking btw)

Been with a handful of couples, both for MFMs and 1 on 1, I have only been asked to pitch in for a hotel once which is honestly pretty surprising to me. Wondering if most couples lean on way or another. For reference, I’m in the NYC area so hoteling can be a bit pricier.
