How to tell when purple carolina reaper is ripe?

The peppers have turned a dark red color. Wasnt sure if they would turn bright red or stay this color. I’ve run into an aphid infestation and would like to harvest asap. So if this is what they are supposed to look like when ripe, please let me know! Thanks!
Btw, i tried a tiny dark red one and it was spicy as hell, so maybe they are ready!
