I posted yesterday asking for advice on two horses I was going to look at this morning. Everyone said to steer clear, and I actually fell in love with a QH buckskin gelding the dealer hasn’t posted to his website yet.
He was $13,500. Not registered. The bad: He’s cow hocked and only 5 years old. The good: He’s the most responsive horse I’ve ever ridden; he does exactly what is asked. Really chill (he was falling asleep tied to the pole while I tried other horses [he wasn’t drugged, the other horses acted very differently to being tied, and why drug just one of them?]). Great on the trails alone or in a group.
All I want to use him for is learning to trot/canter and trails, so I don’t need perfection. Really hoping the PPE I’m having done on Friday pans out.
I figured I’d update y’all, even though you guys will probably chew this horse out too lol. But I enjoyed riding him; he was so sweet and if the PPE checks out I’ll be a very happy first time horse owner.
I don’t think people are chewing you out, just more experienced horse people giving you, as a first time buyer, valuable insight.
In this case, the vet check and X-rays will be extremely important. He does look lame and for what you’re getting, 13K is extremely overpriced.
Whatever happens, good luck on your horse ownership journey!
