I've noticed a lot of people feed different things to their horses, I'd like to know what you feed to your horses and why you feed that to them, what I used to feed was a mixture of sweet feed corn and oats I would vary the amount depending on the time of year and I would make sure they have free access to grass hay which I would get in round bills for $25 each I would pay $35 since we had it delivered
For my yearling in New York:
3lbs Blue Bonnet Intensify Growth
8oz Purina Amplify
6oz Platinum Performance Whey
Plus salt, vitamin E, and some gut supplement from smartpak that has their colicare thing
And then of course pasture and timothy mix hay which is available free choice whether he's outside or in his stall
Our nutritionist likes that feed for him because it's more calorie dense and my barn only does 1 feeding during the summer. We did the Amplify because she wanted a little more rib fat cover on him, although we might have to cut this out soon because he's a little chunky. She initially had him on Coolstance instead of Amplify because it's lower in starch but I absolutely hated it, it smelled smoky and I keep that stuff in my house. Whey is because she likes him on grass hay (as opposed to alfalfa) but the grass hay in my area is all super low in protein no matter how much you pay per bale and being a yearling, he needs more protein. Salt because horses need salt added to their diet, vitamin E because his serum levels were low, and the gut supplement because they ship it to me and it doesn't hurt anything and gives me colic insurance on him.
I do use alfalfa pellets for training but usually only go through like half a pound per session and it's not every day so I don't really count that.
