Hi! Looking at having a horse shipped to me. Do you typically buy the horse before it is shipped or pay the hauling company the full amount on delivery? If I pay before how do I know I wonβt get scammed?
I've had horses hauled locally and internationally (Canada -> USA)
There are a lot of scammers out there so what I have done in the past before I had relationships with haulers was post in my state's horse-related facebook groups asking for recommendations. Through the recommendations I have found haulers who were insured and licensed (you need a class A CDL after a certain weight in the US).
They have always had me pay in advance, with a contract. For the international trip I had to sign over power of attorney.
Where are you buying the horse from/where is it going? I'm sure people on this subreddit would have recommendations too.
