Any tips for the vortex?

I know it’s hard to explain without a visual, but when I do the vortex, I can do the initially waist lift off just fine, but when I bring it back down to try & lift the hoop back off… the hoop always hits my back & doesn’t stay in the horizontal plane. I feel like I have enough momentum, but I just can’t get it. Any tips/words of encouragement?
