Wandering around Yau Ma Tei area, trying to avoid a total touristy experience, my wife and I have been ducking down darker allies and exploring the stairwells of these 10 to 20 floor buildings. We have found some nice cafes this way, and have immersed ourselves into the local feel a tad, but we don't really understand how to find these more efficiently. Many say "Members Only", some appear to he open but are empty, and some are just a little too cryptic to walk into blindly for us English-only travelers.
What are some great bars, pubs, restaurants, and social hangout locations that are not touristy, on these higher up floors, but are pretty damn welcoming to tourist when we peek our head in? Anything just short of leading us by the hand is welcomed.
