I have an almost completely restored 1989 Honda VFR750 rc24 FJ and I’m having significant trouble getting adequate performance out of the front brakes. I've stripped all of the components down to check for damage or wear, blockages etc, and found zero mechanical issues throughout. There’s brand new pads and rotors as well as master cylinder and everything is bled as well as it can be, however as soon as the bike is moving the front brakes simply don't do their job.
Currently if I pull on the lever it only acts about enough force to hold the bike still on a slope, and not enough to do any significant amount of braking which is just dangerous. As I suspect there’s damage i’ve missed inside of the calipers or master cylinder I planned to just re-purchase a new set that are listed as being in better condition and hope for the best, however I know that the bike is somewhat known for sub-par front brake performance from factory in general.
I remember briefly that the CBR600F4i front forks and brakes fit as a direct swap onto the 1994-1997 models however I'm not sure if that stands for my model too, and if it did id be reluctant to swap so many parts out as i'd like to keep it as original as possible so I’m looking for any bikes that do have a front brake system that swaps onto the 1989 FJ as smoothly as possible that performs better than stock, without having to swap out the entire fork and front wheel assembly
If anyone has any information regarding an easy upgrade that’s reliable I'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks
