For context, I am a small (about 5'4, 130 lbs) lefty high school junior CF who has loved everything baseball for my whole life. Growing up, I was always one of the better players in little league, until high school, where I was beat out by kids who had been playing years of travel ball, where I only played school, rec league, and fall ball. But over this off season I spent a lot of time in the gym and working on my mechanics on the tee with hopes of making varsity. However during the tryout period I (rightfully so) failed to make varsity due to lack of consistency with my swing. Today, I got the chance to play in a varsity scrimmage because of a temporary open spot. I decided this was a big chance to make an impression, but my usual swing had not been working so I decided to take the advice of one of the old-head coaches who doesn't believe in mechanics and just "swing hard" and "keep my eye on the ball". I had the greatest scrimmage of my life, going 3-6, with a pair of RBIs against some of our tougher pitching. However my hits were two bloop singles and a soft line single, but my swing felt great. I don't know if I should continue to just hit freely without thinking too much, or go back to mechanics work to try and develop a more powerful swing. I am worried if I go back to hyper analysis, I will lose whatever was working for me today. Any insight is appreciated.
