Hello, All! Looking for some insight into an issue I've experienced in the past few brews. I am having some flavor inconsistencies in bottles after transferring them from my unitank. Let me summarize my cold-side brew process to help with understanding.
I currently ferment in my Ss Brewtech 7gal Unitank. Fermentation is usually very healthy. I average around 10 to 14 days before doing a dump. I then cold crash, dump again, and carbonate.
When it's time to bottle, I use a counter-pressure bottle filler. I purge every bottle with CO2 and cap with a nice foam head. My beer has very minimal oxygen contact from fermentation to bottle.
All that said, my finished product varies a little as you drink through the batch (first bottled to last). I know some of this comes from yeast that may be getting in the bottles near the bottom of the cone (I try to leave some beer behind to avoid sucking yeast off the cone walls). However, bottles from the end of the batch have a slight acetaldehyde thing going on. Bottles from the beginning of the bottling have more spice flavor (I brewed a spiced brown ale last) and, dare I say, more malty flavors.
Sorry for the novel! Cheers 🍻
