Remember that plastic wears out over time and plastic parts may break! Nearly lost a whole batch when my 10 year-old spigot gave up the ghost.

3 bottles into to the batch and the spigot shears off from its base when I go to close it, and beer starts spraying all over the kitchen. It was only a 2.5 gallon batch, so I was able to tilt the bucket enough to keep it from spilling out further.

I finished bottling by dunking the bottles in by hand. Real lucky I sanitized by fully submerging the bottles so both those and my hands had a good Star San rinse. Final tally was 21 bottles filled when I was expecting about 27. Not bad, all things considered.

So, remember that plastic wears out and your should periodically replace those parts. :)
