is a 2.5gbs router necessary ?

I have been looking around and it seems 2.5gbs equipment is coming alone. Is it necessary however ? Im in a house with 4 people with varying devices like

nvidia shield
synology 920
multiple chromecasts
desktop/tablets etc

We have the almost gig internet plan for xfinity ( which is rumored to be over provisioned ). The modem is Motorola MB8600, which is DOCSIS 3.1.

So even if I get a router that is capable, wouldnt I need every item in the chain to also be upgraded to 2.5gbs to fully utilize it.

The title is something I forgot to fix before submitting. Should have been is it right for me versus what it means right now doh
