Internet speed test on iPhone vs Computer. Am I using Orbi router to it’s full potential?

Post Body

27 Days ago a fiber-optic door salesman told me I’m overpaying & under receiving in regard to my cable/wifi plans, campaigning for a switch over.

Coincidently, the day prior I searched “test my wifi speed” & used Google’s promoted, M-Labs test, screenshotted it. 13.2 Mbps download, 16.3 Mbps upload, 7:59 pm.

I pondered for hardly a second, that the numbers seemed low. A hiccup here & there was no problem, the wifi works fine. Until today, reviewing my monthly statement got me searching for logical closure on the matter.

Using both my iPhone & Mac, I ran wifi speed tests on two sites, Bandwithplace & Measurement Lab (M-Lab). I completed ten tests in 60 minuets using the combined gadgets & sites for accuracy.

The slowest experimental test recorded, was on the iPhone; 65 Mbps download, 22Mbps upload, 24 ping. The fastest result was on the Mac, 269 Mbps download, 35 Mbps upload, 20 ping.

Despite the range, both devices flawlessly completed tests showing download speeds of 200 Mbps & the majority upload speeds were 35Mbps.

The Orbi router currently being used is from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Orbi-Ultra-Performance-Whole-System/dp/B01K4CZOBS

Questions: - Why was my internet speed recorded 28 days ago drastically lower, arguably incomparable than all ten tests today. Is Mbps volatility normal? - Now that I have recorded ~270Mbps speed, is that something to be proud of? - You think the salesman was just pulling my leg trying to secure a deal, or could he be onto something? - If so, based on my router above, what are the desirable speeds this model is capable of supporting if I optimized all the other factors?
