File server over a switch/ap

I have an amplifi hd , which happens to have a USB port but is disabled. Luckily I kept an old Netgear r7000 around with tomato installed. That has a USB port on it
Is there anyway I can connect the Netgear to the amplifi making it a switch and then use the USB port on the Netgear to connect to a Western digital external drive for file sharing ?
