How would I create a local filesharing setup on our slightly convoluted home network?

...And I do mean slightly. At least, I think. It could be the second most complicated thing in all of ...ever.

Myself, I am directly connected to our fiber modem/router. My son and his computer are connected to a router that is in another room (that router, obviously connects to the main modem/router). My son can see all the things connected to that router, I cannot. He also has no issues connecting to that router via 192.168.0.1. I can't.
I can connect to mine, 1.1. I am sure there is some issue there.

Man, I know I am making things way more difficult than they have to be. Any ideas you grus?

No one uses the wifi on that router. Honestly, the only reason I have it is simply because there were not enough ethernet ports on the modem, lol. So, what is the best method to just...turn into a switch, essentially? Avoiding another purchase if possible. Even though a switch is rather cheap.

Actually makes sense. Man, I legit make things into The Manhattan Project in my head and then just ...make these kinds of posts. :/ Thanks!

So yeah, it is a router, by design. I keep forgetting that unless otherwise configured as such, it's not like I previously had setup, an actual switch. Here is a view from the actual modem.

So I basically just to dumb down the router and put it in "switch mode" (or AP mode, like it should be called)?

Well, kinda, if you really want to break it down. But convenience, you know.
Honestly, our internet is fast enough that I could probably just remote in and get/give whatever huge files or w/e we need. I know these days this speed is pretty average, but fast enough for us, typically.

Is really pretty much that simple? It always is with me. lol...
Appreciate you.
