Improve WiFi Speeds in Home Office

I rent an older apartment with no ethernet ports. Xfinity setup my router in a bedroom on one end of the apartment and my office is at the other end of the apartment.
My work PC is averaging 10-15mbps download and 5-10mbps upload speed. I start a new job on Monday and would love to not risk spotty video calls etc.
Will a WiFi extender help me out? I see a lot of negative opinions on them. Iām open to a mesh system but would love to not spend a few hundred dollars if not absolutely necessary.
