Why can I get this off?

I am remembering righty tidy lefty Lucy. I turned off water to house and want to replace this or put it back on with plumbers take to ensure it doesn’t leak.

Need to make sure there is enough copper sticking out of the wall before you cut the ferrule and compression nut off, if there isn't you leave the ferrule and nut just like it is and only replace the valve. Cut too far back in the copper and you'll be tearing the wall up to add more just so you could add a new ferrule and nut to it.
