New Home Owner: Large Energy Bill Increase
Post Body

Hey all!

I am a new home owner (purchased in Oct 2023). We just got our Dec - Jan electric & gas bill and it's over $600! Our previous bill was $300-$400.

It's our first winter here, so I'm not sure if this is just "normal". The house is about 3,000 sqft.

Our HVAC unit is blowing a ton of air out of the cracks to the point where the room it's stored in is getting pretty warm. Can I simply add more HVAC tape to seal it up? Are there parts of it I shouldn't tape off? Is this worth just getting an HVAC tech out to see where we can improve? Any additional tips to keep this bill down?

Thank you in advance.
