Unable to add devices to HomeKit - Bug confirmed by Apple

Post Body

I'm not sure if this is allowed or if I have the arbitrary amount of required karma but I didn't see anything in the rules forbidding it so I thought others mind benefit from my frustration. My apologies if this isn't allowed.

I've spent the last 3-4 weeks troubleshooting my inability to add new devices to HomeKit. I've tried 4 different types of devices from 3 different vendors. I've lost track of how many hours I spent on support from each of the vendors but after the 3rd vendor I felt it was more likely to be an Apple issue.

At this point I reached out to Apple support. After spending a couple of hours not he phone with tier 1 support they passed me up to tier 2. At this point they had me factory reset my phone which didn't fix the problem. At this point they asked me if I had any there Apple devices I could try and I did but not with me so I had to call them back.

A few days later I brought my iPad home and had the same results so I reached back out to Apple support. They sent me back to tier 2 since I already had a ticket open and after keeping me on hold for about 15 minutes I was informed there is a known bug that they are working on but there is currently no work around or resolution.

After spending many hours troubleshooting and the considerable hassle of factory resetting my phone I asked how long they had known about the bug. They said "about a month". This conversation took place yesterday.

I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max and an M1 iPad Air. Both are running 16.3.1 iOS and iPad OS respectively. I don't know if the bug is restricted to certain devices and software but I thought others might benefit from my experience.
