Installing backer board, need advice!
Post Body

I am installing tile in my living room. We tore up the carpet and it's down to the original hardwood flooring. The hardwood flooring has pet urine stains from 40 years of pets from the previous tenants. From all the DIY videos I've watched, they are putting cement under the backer boards. I don't want to lay the cement directly on the hardwood floors. Is there something I can put over it? Something thin so if somewhere down the line we (or future owners) want to remove the tile it doesn't destory the hardwood coming up? Even with the stains, the floor has remained level throughout the years.
