Hello
There are certain parts on the exterior of our home that are rotted and need to replaced or repaired. For some of the areas where it would require too large of an amount of wood filler I will just replacing the wood. There is rot around window frames on the house, on the deck trim, and on one of the beams sticking out from the house.
Last week we had good weather so I scraped out all of the rot and filled in some of the spots using Minwax wood hardener, followed up my Minwax wood filler after the hardener dried. I ran out of wood filler and had to leave the property for a week. I just returned to here yesterday. There were some spots still exposed to the elements and got wet again
After checking some of the places I filled I saw that they were not fully dried yet and still felt a bit soft to the touch. I guess the wood filler needed hotter temparature to dry because it has been raining and in the 30-40 degree range lately.
Does anybody know how I could actively fix this rotten wood with the filler while actively battling the elements of the cold and rain? I tried to hold a heatgun up to one of the spots for 30 minutes straight and with it on the highest setting and the wood filler still feels a bit soft to the touch.
Should I just cover up the rotten areas with plastic/tarp to protect it from getting any more moisture and wait until better weather to fix this or does anyone know of a way I can fix this while temparatures are low and it is actively raining?
