Hi all! I've posted before looking for advice on ventilating my janky and outdated bathroom.
Some background/context: My husband and I just bought a small apartment. The bathroom is small (about 24 sq ft), damp, and appears to have extensive moisture damage and possible mold. It's in Denmark, in case that matters. I'm American, so I have the added fun of figuring our unfamiliar building materials.
The good news for us is, I've discovered that there is a vent which appears to go up to the roof. It also seems to be blocked/inhabited by an animal, but I've had the building super in to look at it, and he said he would get up to the roof and check it out.
In my investigations, I discovered that there was a false/drop ceiling in the room, which I have since removed. Since the vent was plugged up and poorly ducted from the drop ceiling to the actual vent pipe, there seems to be a lot of damage up there- ie peeling paint and black mold.
There is also what appears to be a covered over window in the back wall of the shower. I don't know if the previous owners simply painted/drywalled over a window, or what the deal is, but the paint on the other side of the wall is bubbling out, which makes me think it's been leaking into the wall. The part of the window that was above the drop ceiling is covered in black mold.
Just to make a start at redoing this hellhole, I'd like to at least paint the ceiling. It appears to be either plaster or concrete. Anyone have any paint suggestions? Or really any suggestions at all of how to proceed? Fyi I intend to install an electric vent fan, though first I need to find an electrician.
Here are some pics. If you want more info/more pictures, please let me know. I really appreciate any ideas!
