Multiple nail pops and tape seams in drywall?
Post Body

Hi all,

Moved into a 35 year old house back in January. Was not very well insulated (some insulation in walls, had to add insulation to attic and basement ceiling) and it suffered through the brutal New England winter.

Now seeing a LOT of nail pops, a few in almost every room in the house. Mostly convex and what appears to be drywall tape seams bowing a little at the mid seams of exterior (and some interior) walls. Tape isn't coming off, and I don't feel any "give" in the drywall. Could the prolonged extreme cold have caused this?

These issues all seem fairly minor so I don't think it's structural. Nothing is tearing the paper on the drywall. Someone had mentioned studs potentially shrinking or bowing out due to contraction/moisture with the seasons. Also that the "stack effect" could be at play? Prior owner never used a dehumidifier in the basement. I purchased one and now use it regularly.

Has anyone else experienced this? Haven't seen it in any home I've lived in before.
