I'll be talking to our contractor tomorrow morning, but I wanted to get some opinions and info before.
We're having our basement finished and have several metal support posts running along the middle of the house. We will be covering them with walls and to fit our design, I asked our contractor if it would be possible to move one post over a bit(it's not dead in the center of the two surrounding posts). He calculated that they could move it over about 6 inches, which fit what we needed. It wouldn't cost too much more, so we said yes.
I came home today to check out the work and they had cut the post at the ground and moved it over. Before, the post was cemented into the ground. Now, it is sitting on a slightly roughed up part of the concrete, I'm guessing to give it some friction. The wall will be built around it.
This seems like a big change and makes me a bit uneasy, but I am not an engineer. Will having the wall around it be enough or do they need to get a new post, drill into the concrete and put it in? I'll be speaking with the contractor tomorrow.

Edit: good news, it was temporary, for the night. They're adding more support. Thanks, all.
